The Bitchionary. Podcast
The Bitchionary is the dictionary of bitches, a history of women who are complicated and messy, brilliant and overlooked, terrible and monstrous, and all things that humans are.
Why do we need a dictionary of bitches?
Under the patriarchy, we paint minorities and women with a broad brush. If a woman makes a false rape allegation, society says that’s because women lie about rape. If a woman makes a bad decision while in a position of power, society says that’s because women don’t belong in positions of power. But when the default, a white man, does something awful we say he’s a loner, a single bad apple, and we never use it to define men as a whole. Man is the default, and we understand that men are complex and cannot be defined in simplistic terms.
This podcast seeks to give the same nuance to women by defining our own terms.
We’ll tell stories of awesome women who have been overlooked by history, but we’ll also tell stories of complicated and messy women. We’ll tell stories of women who have committed terrible acts, both personally and politically. We’ll tell stories that have happened to women and causes that women have championed. We’ll tell stories of mythical women and fictional women. We want to recognize that women contain as many multitudes as men, and all of our stories are worth sharing.
